The first pre-school providers in Ireland to receive the Healthy Ireland Award for the delivery of health promoting pre-school services will be honoured at an important award ceremony and showcasing event in Athlone IT on Saturday 2nd April. Over 160 service providers operating across the country have completed the training programme and have been assessed and validated as meeting the criteria required for recognition as a Healthy Ireland Pre-school service.

The initiative funded by the HSE and delivered on their behalf by the National Childhood Network is supported by the DCYA and the Department of Education and Skills. The programme seeks to build the knowledge and skills of pre-school practitioners to develop health promoting pre-school services that help influence children to develop healthy lifestyle habits from their early years. Research worldwide shows the important role the pre-school sector has in promoting a health and well-being agenda in collaboration with parents and families.

The following Limerick services will receive their award at the event:

  • Broadford Community Childcare
  • Clanmaurice Pre-school
  • Happy Faces
  • Little Wonders
  • Step by Step Montessori
  • Teddy’s Community Playschool Ltd
  • Whitethorns Montessori Pre-school

Services who completed the training in 2015 will receive an assessment of their health promoting practices in April – May of this year. Successful services will receive their award later in 2016. Further training programmes will be delivered throughout 2016.
